New Orleans travel information

The greatest attraction for tourists that come to New Orleans are not necessarily the buildings, surroundings, parks or museums, but the fact that here they can do what they want and nobody sees them as freaks.

The city has good parts too but it mostly attracts tourists with its decadence, people come here to do what they would be ashamed to do in their home town. And even the simple tourist who comes here just to visit the place and have a bit of fun might end up crossing his limits. The city’s atmosphere is catchy and you kind of go with the flow.

So it is better not to stay too long in New Orleans if you are a “good guy”.

The city definitely has its charm even if decadence embraces most of the city, a city with a long history, a city built below sea level as if to match the fact that it is also below the level of normality, but that’s just my opinion.

The city is defined by its people that have French and Spanish root sand Spanish architectural style can still be seen in some of the landmarks. In 1803 the city became part of America and in the early 19th century the city was already a mix of cultures that included whites, blacks, French and Spanish. The majority of the population was black, many of them slaves.

The city soon became a center of entertainment and after the war many burlesque clubs sprung up and by the 1950s the city was a magnet for strippers and other kind of entertainers. The hearth of entertainment was and still is Bourbon Street, one of the most famous boulevards in America. Flashy neon lights everywhere attract tourists and locals alike but the more daring one even have a person outside to invite people and present their offer. It is a place full of surprises and just walking down the street will be quite entertaining, you don’t need to enter all the entertainment facilities to have a bit of fun, fun comes out on the street to met you!

From 8 in the evening the party district is closed to all vehicles and it becomes a pedestrian only area. Music is on and the party begins till late in the morning.

Hot entertainment and nightlife are the strong point of the city and the variety on offer is overwhelming: dancing, singing, stripping, everything and anything you can imagine connected to entertainment is here. This is because the city, actually its people welcome decadence with open arms. Mardi Gras is a celebration that best represents this. The parade shows this decadence. Even dogs have their place here and you can see all types of them dressed in different ways parading down the street with their owners.

Of course there are a few residents that consider themselves detached from all vice and try to make a difference but they are present in small numbers. So no famous churches to visit just a famous voodoo shop full of stuff they use for performing their magic. Actually a famous place to visit is not a church but a tomb where a former well known voodoo female priest is buried. Quite spooky!

New Orleans is a heaven for entertainers, singers, strippers, magicians and all those who want more just ordinary entertainment and hell and chaos for those who have little to do with vice. Nevertheless visiting it is quite an experience for any. You’ll never know if it will have a positive or negative effect on you till you visit it!
