General facts about Albuquerque

Albuquerque is the largest city in New Mexico and the one with the most residents. The city lays on both sides of the Rio Grande river and the iconic Route 66 also runs right through it. Centuries before the European conquest, the Tanoan and Keresan people, two Native american groups, already had permanent settlements here.



Albuquerque was officially founded by Spanish settlers in 1706 and started to grow into a metropolis with a population of approximately 840,000 people. Have you been wondering about the name?
